A french drain uses a perforated pipe laid in a trench lined with filter fabric and backfilled with a drainage aggregate.
This is the most common and economical fix for soggy lawns and can also be used along foundations to prevent water getting into basements.
Prior to any digging we cut and roll up sod along the trench line to be re used.
All soil that is dug up is removed and disposed of and a filter fabric is laid into the trench.
After the pipe is laid and the trench backfilled with rock we "burrito " the fabric over the top to seal everything up and the sod is laid back over the top.
It may seem like this process creates a mess and your yard would be left in bad shape. Here is a picture the day of project completion. The entire width of this backyard was saturated but within 2 weeks of having the french drain installed it was significantly drier and our trench line was not noticeable at all.
